THEATRE

STUDIES:

 

Josh holds an Undergraduate Degree from the University of Sussex in English Literature and Drama & Theatre Studies, with first-class honours in the Writing for Theatre and Final Performance Project modules.

During his studies at Sussex, Josh wrote, directed and performed in multiple pieces within the independent drama and musical theatre societies; these ranged from small-scale sketches and cabaret acts to fully-fledged stage plays and musical theatre performances. 

Josh's writing was the first original piece staged in the musical theatre society's history (founded in 1992).​

Following his studies, Josh has written several staged plays, spanning genres such as comedy, horror, drama, musical theatre and more.

​Alongside this, Josh has ghostwritten for sketch comedy performance troupes and has led workshops in writing for (and devising) theatre.​​​

THE WATERCOLOUR WOMAN

'The Watercolour Woman' is an original stage play by Josh Clayton- a horror/ drama  centered on artistry, expression and grief.

Josh is also the composer of the play's score.
Originally slated for a 2020 debut, the play was not staged due to the global pandemic, and has been paused indefinitely since.

ALL MEN MUST SING;
A PARODY OF ICE & FIRE

'All Men Must Sing; A Parody of Ice & Fire' is a full-length and full-scale musical production which parodied the 'Game of Thrones' francise. The play featured a full band, puppetry, choreography and more, and sold out at the Brighton Fringe Festival in 2019.

WELCOME TO THE TEMPTATION

'Welcome to The Temptation' is a yet to be staged or filmed screen text set in the fictitious nightclub 'The Temptation' in the roaring 1920s. Packed with heart, drama, and true prohibition-era decadence, the story centres around a bisexual club singer who finds herself torn between the expectation of marriage to her government fiancé and her hidden love affair.
